PERAN WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME (WFP) DALAM MENANGANI KRISIS PANGAN BERKELANJUTAN DI MADAGASKAR TAHUN 2020-2023

Abstract

This study explain the ongoing food crisis in Madagascar from 2020 to 2023. This situation was triggered by various factors, including climate change, prolonged drought, natural disasters, and socio-economic impacts resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. This study employs a qualitative research method, with data collection through interviews and literature reviews, and utilizes Clive Archer's concept of the role of international organizations, which includes instruments, arenas, and actors. The results of this study indicate that the WFP plays a crucial role in distributing aid from various donors, fostering inter-agency collaboration through the BNGRC, Food Security Cluster, and CERF, and implementing strategic programs to eradicate hunger in line with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 agenda, specifically “zero hunger,” to enhance food security through programs such as Miaro Nutrition, School Meals, and Fagnavotse. Despite facing various challenges, particularly in logistics and infrastructure, the WFP has been able to reach a wide range of affected groups. As such, the WFP can be said to play a crucial role in maintaining food security to prevent prolonged food crises and supporting community recovery from prolonged crises.
