SHARING IDENTITY ANTARA INDONESIA DAN MALAYSIA DALAM BIDANG KEBUDAYAAN TAHUN 2018-2023
Abstract
Indonesia and Malaysia are two allied countries with strong kinship relations based on similarities in culture, language, religion, and history. However, crossing national borders sometimes causes minor friction in the dynamics of their relationship, especially in the cultural context. Indonesian and Malay, despite regional differences, have the same roots in Old Malay. The two countries also share many cultural traditions, such as customs, traditional arts, and culinary delights, which reflect their kinship ties. This research aims to describe foreign policy between the two countries in the field of culture through sharing identity and nation branding. The research method used is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The data collection is through documentation studies. Key findings show that through cultural initiatives such as joint festivals and arts exchanges, the two countries strengthen their cultural ties while promoting national identities through national branding. Although there are challenges in managing cultural claims and cultural similarities separated by national borders, diplomatic and cooperative efforts continue to strengthen these cultural relations. The hope is that this research can provide deeper insight into the role of culture in international diplomacy as well as national branding strategies to promote cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia.
