Abstract
This study analyzes Japan’s foreign policy in response to China’s rising military assertiveness from 2021 to 2024, particularly concerning territorial claims over the Senkaku Islands. As China’s influence grows, Japan is compelled to reassess its security posture to ensure national survival. Employing realism approach, the research investigates both domestic and international factors shaping Japan’s policy decisions, focusing on security and defense considerations. Utilizing qualitative research methods, the findings illustrate Japan’s proactive measures to address the challenge posed by China. Key strategies include enhancing stability and security in the Indo-Pacific region, modernizing military capabilities with a focus on counter-strike capacity, strengthening defense alliances with the United States, avoiding excessive involvement in regional conflicts, and adopting a firm stance on military enhancements. This research underscores the importance of Japan’s evolving foreign policy as it navigates the complexities of regional security dynamics and emphasizes the need for a robust defense strategy in the face of increasing geopolitical tensions.
