Kebijakan Luar Negeri India dalam Strategi Necklace of Diamond pada Kerja sama Pertahanan India-Indonesia Tahun 2018
Abstract
This study analyzes the necklace of diamonds strategy in India-Indonesia defence cooperation in 2018. The objective of this study is to analyze the strategic considerations behind India’s policy of making Indonesia as one of a key point in its Necklace of Diamond strategy. This study was analyzed using an offensive realism approach and a foreign policy decision making concept that focuses on international and domestic determinant. The analysis shows that India gains strategic advantages through coordinated patrols, bilateral exercises, and its involvement in port infrastructure development, Furthermore, cooperation with Indonesia is important for securing the Malacca strait shipping route, given that more that 55% of India’s trade passes through the South China Sea and the Malacca Strait. This is why India continues to regard Indonesia as an important point in this strategy. The defence cooperation established between India and Indonesia provides India with numerous positions, opportunities, and potential that can be further developed in the future to counter the influence of major power in the region, particularly China. The findings of this study were explored using an explanatory qualitative method supported by interviews as primary data and literature review as secondary data.
