KEBIJAKAN LUAR NEGERI TURKI DALAM MENGHADAPI ANCAMAN TERHADAP KEAMANAN ENERGI DI LAUT MEDITERANIA TIMUR PADA TAHUN 2019-2022
Abstract
This research aims to analyze Turkey's foreign policy in responding to energy security threats in the Eastern Mediterranean during the 2019-2022 period. Turkey has strategic interests in the region given the significant potential of energy resources contained therein. However, the exploration and exploitation of these energy resources often lead to tensions with neighboring countries such as Greece and Cyprus, as well as other international actors. This research uses the classical realism framework and the concepts of energy security and foreign policy. The research method used is a qualitative research method with data obtained from secondary sources such as documents, reports, and relevant academic literature. The results show that Turkey has implemented various foreign policy instruments to protect it’s energy security in the Eastern Mediterranean. These instruments include diplomacy, military, and economy. In diplomacy, Turkey actively conducts bilateral and multilateral negotiations and enters into cooperation agreements to strengthen it’s position. In the military field, Turkey has shown it’s courage by escorting exploration vessels and conducting significant military exercises to demonstrate it’s strength and readiness. Turkey has also conducted military intervention in Libya based on it’s energy security interests. Meanwhile, in the economic field, Turkey has invested a lot of resources in energy development and established economic cooperation with various countries to secure long-term energy supply.
