Abstract

This abstract examines the national interests of the United States in the Republic of Indonesia (RI) and Papua New Guinea (PNG) region through the establishment of a military base in Port Moresby. The analysis explores the strategic motivations of the US, including efforts to counterbalance the regional influence of other powers, secure maritime trade routes, and enhance power projection capabilities in the South Pacific. Furthermore, this abstract investigates the implications of this military base development on regional security dynamics, bilateral relations between the US and RI and PNG, as well as its potential impact on the sovereignty and stability of the region. By considering geopolitical and security perspectives, this research aims to understand how this US initiative reflects and advances its national interests amidst the evolving geostrategic landscape of the Indo-Pacific.
