Abstract

This study examines the impact of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Australia in addressing illegal fishing practices during the 2020–2024 period. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach through literature review, the research analyzes official documents such as the 1974 MoU Box, reports from KKP and AFMA, and academic publications. Findings indicate that this cooperation significantly reduced violations through joint patrols, intelligence sharing, and coastal community empowerment. However, challenges like limited resources, overlapping authorities, and geopolitical dynamics hinder policy effectiveness. The study recommends strengthening cross-sector coordination, optimizing monitoring technology, and enhancing law enforcement capacity. This bilateral cooperation is expected to serve as a model for sustainable and equitable transboundary fisheries management.
