ANALYSIS OF CHINA'S INTERESTS IN ESTABLISHING A MILITARY BASE IN DJIBOUTI IN 2023
Abstract
The construction of China's military base in Djibouti is a strategic move reflecting Beijing's economic, political, and military interests in the region. Djibouti's strategic location near the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, one of the busiest shipping lanes globally, enables China to protect its trade routes and secure infrastructure projects that are part of the Belt and Road Initiative. This study explores the motives, implications, and international responses to the construction of China's military base in Djibouti.
